SCARAB: Long's Island's Scarab, named after ancient Egypt's magic shaped amulets, has been touring since mid 94 with their melodic yet aggressive sound. Scarab consists of Melanie Wills' haunting vocals, Milan Millevoy's guitar, Lee Greenman's bass, and Dan Lopez's drumming. Together they create songs that are catchy yet disturbing, enticing but biting. The 4 song demo includes: Struggle, Yeast, Dearest and Bloom. You can contact the band through email.

Review from THE HARDCORE WEBSITE: Interesting to say the least. The music, in parts, is similar to the 90's alternative rock but with a bit more of an aggressive edge. Guitaring is very clean, yet greatly reflects the emotion of the song itself.  Bass lines take on an almost "Cliff Burtonish" (older Metallica) melody in the background that are interesting in themselves. Drums are very clear and precise and fit excellently with the mood of each song. Combing all of these elements with Melanie's very hi, sweet soft pitch, you get a music that is quite enjoyable. The 1st 2 songs have more of a punkish side to them with faster beats and guitaring while the last 2 songs are a bit slower. Personally, the last 2 songs are my favorites. They are slower than then 1st two but have a sadness to them. No, it's NOT Hardcore, but it's great and I'm the 1st to turn away from bad music. It's well worth a listen in my opinion.
