Dan Nelson, the brother in law of Lou GO FUCK YOURSELF is the new singer for Anthrax:

Last month, Dan Nelson was a part-time singer from Levittown, working as a personal trainer to make ends meet as he tried to put together a new band.

Yesterday, he was named the new lead singer of heavy metal legend Anthrax.

"It really is a dream come true," said Nelson, 31, adding that he has been a fan of the band, best known for pioneering both speed-metal and rap-metal and for its collaboration with Public Enemy "Bring the Noise," since he was 10 years old. "I've been on pins and needles waiting to hear and I still can't believe it."

Anthrax began its search for a new singer last year, after talks to reunite with its original singer Joey Belladonna fell through. Guitarist Rob Caggiano had met with Nelson for a possible side project, but after they jammed together for 10 hours, he said, "I think you'd be right for Anthrax."

Nelson said he had been officially selected about two weeks ago and that he had been working on songs with the band's guitarists, Scott Ian and Caggiano, drummer Charlie Benante and bassist Frankie Bello for its new album. "The new songs are the real deal, they're really looking to recreate Anthrax," Nelson said. "They are looking to do something timeless."

Ian said the band is enjoying working with Nelson. "The first time we jammed, we ran through a bunch of old songs, songs from the John Bush/Joey Belladonna eras," Ian said in a statement. "Right from the first second Dan started 'Room For One More' we knew. We said, 'Now that we've got that, let's work his - off.'"

For Nelson, the connection is doubly sweet.

He had put his music career on hold to help his wife, Kim, recover from open heart surgery. "When she made it through the surgery, I asked her what I could do to help her get better, I would do anything," Nelson said. "She looked at me and said one word, 'Sing.' That really lit a fire under me and that's when I e-mailed Rob, so I guess I have my wife to thank that I'm in Anthrax."
