AGAINST THE GRAIN / DOWNLOW split 7" from Guillotine Records. It was released in 98. Great recording and a great reflection of the true Hardcore sound that is rare to find these days. Both bands are more along the lines of the old school sound that started it all off. Quick paced, screamy vocals, and true to it's style. Get one of these before they're all gone. |

A bit of history on the band from a mini interview
I did with them through mail:
The band formed in around february-march 1996 when Carlito the guitar player
had put an add in the aquarian(ec rocker) and Kabula answered his add. Kabula
and Carlito got together and got Stan Ambro(ex-cause for alarm) to play drums
and picked up Rob Portvliet along the way to add more power on guitar for
the band. On April 18th outside of the pipeline, this clown that goes by
the name of a.g. is extremely unsober hanging with the guys in Faction Zero,
when another extremely unsober fool would appear named rob"einstein"portvliet.
Rob is overheard bragging about his new band(just kidding rob!)and he mentions
that he band needs a singer. a.g. butts into the conversation and says that
he can sing so they try a.g. the next day, and against the grain is officially
born april 19th 1996! yay hooray!
So anyways, as far as former bands go, rob kabula was in cause for alarm and agnostic front(now currently in a.f. once again), stan ambro like was said before wasin cause for alarm and the oi! band niblicke hembane, then you got carlito who was in DNQ, and then rob"einstein" was in evulsion. A.G. was very much avoided all his life!(we think it was the cologne). The past release so far is the only release the, 7song demo. That is still available through against the grain 3-11 lyncrest ave. fairlawn n.j. 07410. $4.00 money order or well-hidden cash and $5.00 outside of the u.s.a. no checks! t-shirts are $10.00 in the u.s. and outside of the u.s. is $12.00. people can still send to the x-entertainment address but it will take a little longer for the mail to be received.
The meaning behind the band
is to put down people that get in our way and to speak about topics that
tick us off. That's what gets us goin'. you go one way and we'll go the other
wayand the only difference is is that the band will jam their shoes up your
ass so hard that you will ask yourself why am i such an asshole?? and you
will obviuosly see the light(just kidding) we're just having fun making the
most brutal and testosterone driven hardcore without any tough guy shit and
preachiness. Just plain fun! with some helpful hints on how to be yourself.
the other bands influences are: the mob, agnostic front, cause for alarm,
murphy's law, breakdown, cro-mags, bad brains, mr. bungle, urban waste, the
bruisers, madball, 25 ta life, bulldoze, zombula 451, awkward thought, nofx,
cavity creeps, s.o.d., m.o.d.,mental abuse, leeway , mike patton, astrud
gilberto, negative approach, sick of it all, sepultura, the list goes on....
All these bands and many others
are responsible for molding the monster against the grain. The bullshit artists
and the fucks created against the grain. AGAINST THE GRAIN COMIN' TA GETCHA-
CULO!!
